A surgeon ("Chirurg" in German) is a physician that works with his hands. The German term "Chirurg" is derived from the Greek words Cheir = hand and Ergon = work. Therefore, a hand surgeon is some who, with the help of his own hands, cares for the hands of his patients. During my surgical residency, which began in 1979, I developed an interest for hand surgery and since 1986 I have specialized solely on cases related to hand surgery. Since 1993, I have worked with four other surgeons and two anesthesiologists in our own clinic.    |
